A new Laboratory Information System (LIS) [MAK TRACE LINE®] was introduced in Manitoba in 2012. TraceLine® is a software system that provides electronic capacity and functionality for blood component and derivative inventory management, testing and generating reports as well as replacing existing manual systems. The implementation of TraceLine® in Manitoba was accomplished by the partnership of Canadian Blood Services, Shared Health and Manitoba Health.
The TraceLine® implementation is a quality initiative that will improve patient safety through shortened turnaround times and built in safeguards as well as creating efficiencies for staff.
